Intradisk - FAQs

Wireless LAN

can Intradisk Servers act as a WLAN-Client

If you intend to use intradisk as a WLAN client e.g. for recording of internet radio stations just:

  • configure the WLAN option “mode” from WLAN-Master to WLAN-client
  • fill in the corresponding WLAN Essid and password authentication of your local WLAN network
  • Press “Commit Changes” and hit “Restart Network” until your satisfied with all configuration
  • Finally press “Make Changes” permanent to store all configuration in Flash memory

what algorithms are available for WLAN security

All Intradisk servers offer enhanced crypto with WPA, WPA-PSK, WPA2 and WPA2-PSK as well as the old WEP encryption algorithm. WEP is offered, because some clients are still not able to connect with the newest security authentication mechanisms.

If this is still not enough security, you also have the additional choice to connect all intradisk by connection via the free OpenSSH suite programs using hard encrytion protocolls like SSH, SFTP or SCP to tranfer files from or to your intradisk. These high encrytion protocolls are intended for accessing your intradisk over the internet by tunneling through the standard SSH port of most firewalls.

  1. Lower protocoll layers security
    • WPA2, WPA2-PSK (best available WLAN security & easiest configuration)
    • WPA, WPA-PSK
    • WEP (insecure, just better than nothing)
  2. Higher protocoll layers security
    • SSH using high rsa2 & dsa ecrytion Secure Shell
    • SFTP e.g. WinSCP3 is an easy to use Secure FTP-Browser in Explorer and TotalCommander style using SSH
    • SCP secure copy to transfer files from/to
